Take the I8 from San Diego for about 20-35 miles. Get off at Washington St. in El Cajon. Go south until you come to the Dehesa Rd. intersection. Go down Dehesa Rd. and past the big 10% grade. After you pass Singing Hills Golf Course look to your left. You will see some big mountains. Look for a housing development. Go left at Sycuan Summit Rd. and you can park at the end of the road. This trail starts at the north end of Sycuan Summit Drive and ends in the vicinity of Dehesa Mountain Lane in the town of Suncrest.
The properties on either side of the trailhead are private residences and riders should respect the same.
According to San Diego county records,
(www.sangis.org) the majority of the trail crosses properties primarily owned by non-resident trusts.
The elevation gain/loss is approx 1500 ft and the trail is moderately technical with washout and eroded conditions over most of the same.
From Dehesa Rd, Dehesa Mountain Lane (summit) is approx 2 miles and turns into Crest Drive/La Cresta Blvd and Mountain View Rd(right/east)or continue (left/west) on La Cresta Rd.
The eastern route follows (down) to Dehesa Canyon road and (right/west) to Rancho San Diego.
The western route follows (down) to Greenfield Dr and El Cajon.
From Dehesa, the view is worth the climb & from Suncrest/Crest the downhill-ers should find the adrenaline rush enjoyable as well.
