I did a little local ride today (sat afternoon) climbed up from La Tuna and rode the crest south to Sunshine and didnt see a soul
riding a bike. 10 years ago, I'd used to see 2 dozen riders...hmmmph, I guess Playstation 3 won out :(

Same thing happened to me...rode up at Cuyamaca for 4 hrs and 23 miles yesterday...didn't see a soul on the trail the whole time. Saw plenty of wild trukeys, though. Lots of wind....30-40 mph gusts, I guess, by Sunrise Hwy....maybe most mtbers (today) are afraid of the wind, rain, snow, clouds, etc....safer (for them) to ride in sunshine, on pavement, or stay home.

I guess we can add X-Box 360 to that list....

Don't listen to Petey...he's a posuer of the highest order.

Same experience for Deb and I. We rode Bouquet Canyon in total solitude. The wind was blowing pretty good, but nothing approaching the usual, so you have to be thankful for just being out there. The clouds scudded across the top of the ridge and as we approached the top, it was kind of cool seeing the phantom shapes of the mists cross our path. X-box, Ipod and TV are pulling most of us into a psuedo-reality, lulling us into a numb stupidity.

        Clouds, yes...missed that mention....
As I turned around to head back (and into the headwinds), I saw the clouds drop down the sides of the mountains in the near distance (??)...I was hoping to be able to ride into and through them...but, by the time I got there, they were not heading in the direction I was heading. Would have been pretty neat to ride in clouds...limited visibility....around tight turns...not knowing if someone one is ahead of you (goin in your direction or approaching you)....as you barrell down the ST at 20-25MPH....with no foglights...that would have been gnarly! (I may have just had a STP moment, there, may....)

I have an Ipod...only use it while urban walking (never hiking), in the car, or at the gym.

GR, you're full of crap. I rode (almost) 4 hours at Noble on Saturday and there was no wind... but now that you mention it, there weren't very many riders either. ;-)

DC, lying about your age....at your (advanced-octogenarian) age...really diminishes your credibility...and, as u know, one REALLY needs it around here!
I checked my favorite weather website b4 I went up there (as I always do b4 I go for a ride) and it said the winds were going to be 20-30 mph with 40pmh gusts.

Now, you were at Noble, while I was at Cuyamaca and AnzaBorrego by the new Sunrise Hwy Trailhead. The winds I spoke of were only near that portion of the trail (Sunrise Hwy Trailhead). As soon as I got back to La Cima Road, the winds were down to 15-20mph and pretty much stayed around there until I got to top of Soapstone. I think most riders stayed away because they knew the winds were going to make for a less-than-perfect ride. I stand by my FACTS - I also saw that the winds were going to be about the same at (parts of Laguna Rec Area), but decided to do Cuyamaca instead.

Now, never challenge my ah-thor-itay AGAIN!

*I know who REALLY killed JFK...too...
