  1. The water bars near Eagle Eye Sh - The water bars near Eagle Eye Shelter have been removed and this section of the trail is now closed for revegetation. A new section with a switchback has been constructed next to the old section. The water bars were an excellent challenge that tested endurance and skill (a real bitch with ice on them), the new section is much more civilized and a piece of cake to go through. Sometimes I wonder if we are making things too easy, like removing the rock gardens that made the climb from the bottom parking lot a tougher climb.

  2. Mt. Falcon - GPS position & altitude are provided as reference for the east entrance.

The present multi-use trails lead to historic sites and scenic vistas throughout the park. These trails lead from the plains at the east end of the park, up the foothills on a narrow road which once carried Stanley Steamers, and through forests and meadows to the many points of interest at the top. Eagle Eye Shelter, once the home of a more recent tenant, provides a panoramic view from Indian Hills, to Evergreen, and Mount Evans. Atop Mount Falcon itself, a wooden tower rises to yield intriguing views of the ruins, Red Rocks Park, and the plains. The west parking area provides an approach to these areas from above. From the east parking area (off Highway 8) south of the Town of Morrison, a trail loops across plains and gullies to an interesting outcrop of red sandstone. Picnic tables and restrooms are provided at both parking areas.

Need a workout? Go climb Mt. Falcon. This ascent will test your endurance and, if your a low-lander, your lung capacity. The water bars near Eagle Eye Shelter will also test your trials skills after a decent ascent. Don't let this scare you away from riding Mt. Falcon... Once at the top you can loop around meadow trails and enjoy spectacular views of the Colorado back country. Spend a few minutes and visit the ruins of John Brisben Walkers amazing home that burned in 1918 along with the uncompleted construction of a summer White House.

Rated Advanced because of the ascent.
